While that might have been the smart thing to do, I'm thinking that the SD move to Canada was a warning shot to the UAW so they know they don't have Ford's crown jewels in a vice next contract. Given the rhetoric that is coming in 2028, things might get very messy then.
I'm sure someone else can fill in the details better, but I think that it would require basically shutting the plant down and ripping the roof off and then making it taller?
At that point your most likely better off building another plant?
With the $$ Ford is spending at Michigan Battery, BOC, LAP and OAP plus the new World HQ...you'd think they would have some spare change to correct that oversight in Flat Rock....
What concerns me is that Ford has put its Canadian workers through hell with mismanaged changes.
All they had to do is give them C2 Equator/Equator Sport, renamed Escape and Edge plus Lincoln variants,
new Corsair and Nautilis.
Took a drive today through the yard of what I believe is the largest truck equipment up fitter in New England. If I had to guess I would say at least 250 pick ups, class 4-5 , 6-7 and class 8s. Large number of 150's in Mass DOT Yellow. Probably 30 Mass DOT Fl 114's single axle and tandems , then my guess would be an equal mix of Macks, Western Stars, and Internationals. Surprisingly only a couple of Paccars.
Highest percentage of the class 8's were obviously plow trucks judging by extended front frames for head gear. F-750's ...2! Both same order judging by red color, V-8s and extended front frame extensions without bumpers.
I would say the majority of 1-5 were Fords followed by GMs, very few Rams.
