I don't disagree that a more current, optimized platform sounds better, but I just question if Ford wants to make that investment.
Couple with the rumors that Ford may move on from CD6 altogether, why would they jump to adding it elsewhere? I also thought that was one of the original plans for Mustang to go to it, and they decided not to?
I've said that for years now - importing Zephyr would give Lincoln dealers the sedan they've asked for without breaking the bank of having to set up production here. Is it ideal? No, but at least it's something since Ford doesn't seem to want to allow Lincoln to invest in its home market. Keep it mid to high series trims to keep pricing up, and sell what you can sell. Back in the day, MKZ sold anywhere from 1,500 to 2000+ a month. Even if they can get 1000 a month, you're still adding 12k units to the brand/dealer sales.
The ideal scenario would be a Lincoln counterpart to this Mustang 4-door, but I'm skeptical that'll happen.
I also advocated bringing Evos over (the hatch version) as a Fusion-adjacent product that you can charge more for than a traditional sedan. A Mustang 4-door would take its place, though.
Maybe they could go back to using cd6 for the next coupe and sedan? I know weight and size were apparently concerns, but if they can find a way to make significant gains there, there's the potential to make the cd6 a kickass performance platform, plus we know it can package hybrid powertrains with relative ease.
Since we know this will not ever be intro'ed in the NA market, I was wondering if a JMC version will show up in China where EV is taking center stage for any road going design.
It wouldn't kill them to send the Zephyr over, just to supply as needed. Doesn't need to be a massive amount to keep fatories open or anything. It's obvious the Chinese arm of Ford knows how to do luxury correctly...
Maybe they could use CD6 chassis? Already has been packaged with hybrid tech at the start so there's that and it is AWD capable as well....

The original 1970-77 Maverick had a 109.9 in wheelbase with 193.9 in OAL for the 4 door and 187in for the 2dr, comparable to the S650's 189in OAL. the current Mustang is over 5 inches wider than the old Mav, but to me looks much larger. Ironically, the sensible shoes Maverick 4dr is almost 2in lower in overall height than the S650 Mustang. The current generation Ranger gained 2 inches in wheelbase and 2 inches in Overall length as well as different suspension hardpoints on the same basic frame.
Whether or not the S650 could be modified enough to accommodate a 4dr is debatable , but I bet they would seriously contemplate that rather than a whole new platform for a low volume sedan.
