  5. But what does that have to do with this new Hummer? What does the bankruptcy induced shutdown of Hummer brand have any relevance to this new truck? I don't think you have demonstrated a case for you to rest on. The negative comments I'm reading here about the Hummer reminds me of the Jeep message boards after the Bronco reveal. A bunch of pithy nonsensical justifications for why the vehicle from a brand you do not like is a dud or failure and totally ignoring objectives facts and relevance.

  6. Tape, paint, and swear words! I did cut a tracing stencil for the lions to keep them consistent, but otherwise the lettering and crest were all done by hand.

  8. Some of you are out to lunch BTW. The general reception for this truck is overwhelmingly positive. GM will have no problem selling as many as they want to make. And I'm going to say it again in ALL CAPS: $80K STARTING PRICE AND $112,595 FULLY LOADED FIRST EDITION IS NOT EXPENSIVE FOR THE TARGET CUSTOMER. It is in fact cheaper than most of the ICE competition. Mercedes charges a lot more for G63.

  11. There's no question that there are dealerships that Ford would like to get rid of but the franchise laws protect some of the worst, especially those that violate state advertising regulations. The advertising regulations are fairly consistent among states are are primarily concerned with deceptive advertising practices. There are dealerships that exclude destination charges in their advertised sale prices, include rebates and incentives that are only available to select customers (College Graduate, First Responders, etc.) and even include trade value and/or money down. Those dealerships can be fined but otherwise stay in business. After nearly 35 years managing advertising for a number of franchises that my boss owned over the years (Ford, Dodge, Hyundai) I'm well familiar with the regulations in CT, MA, NY & NH. In general terms, Ford can only take limited action against dealerships that violate various Ford policies and standards. Ford can restrict vehicle allocation, cut dealership payments for certain programs, etc. but can't terminate a dealership's franchise unless they violate the franchise agreement.

  12. My family and I are no strangers to the Bourbon Trail... it's not a bad drive at all from central Ohio. Back to Ohio beers... Brew Dog's (of Scottland) only American brewery is only about 20 minutes from my house and it's an awesome place to hang out. Good beers, good food, and a new boutique hotel that has beer taps in every room!

  16. Bolt's success, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with marketing. It's an ugly POS econobox that nobody wants to be seen in with a rubbermaid interior. Have you ever sat in one at an auto show? No amount of marketing can overcome that. Had they wrapped the powertrain in a stylish body that got your attention, they'd be flying off the lots.

  17. I never said cars are dead. I said the market is overcrowded and shrinking and there isn’t much profit to be had. Buyers are moving to crossovers, SUVs and pickups because of utility, more choices and negligible difference in fuel costs. Camcord in particular has kept their styling fresh but that didn’t stop the sales slide for them.

  20. I agree with most of what you're saying. The only thing I'll say is that the market IS different today, and we're seeing buyers scoop up those ultra high end models, that could lead to a market for a well-done Lincoln pickup. But I think if they're going to do that it should be something Rivian-esque - that's EV, feature/tech laden, etc., not just a rebodied F-150.

  21. Two brands also means dulituting product also. Why should the Silverado "suffer" in features because there is a GMC model? Ford doesn't have a problem selling 100K Super Duties and I'm betting the numbers support that its better to come out with a higher end product then have a completely different brandname with its associated costs attached to it. Lincoln has zero credibility in the Truck market, and thats why its products flopped (plus the last F-150 was just to help keep Lincoln with product). Plus it has stigma attached to it-showing up in a high end luxury vehicle at a job site is a good way to piss off people. Hell its even a good way to piss off white collar employees-I used to work for a company and the owner pulls up in a brand new 120K Range Rover to the meeting and then tells us our healthcare prices where going up 5-10% and there be no raises either. Its all about perception.

  32. I wonder how that is going to play out...good idea (since that is one of the things I hear people complain about with Ford dealerships and the MME) since Tesla does something similar. I don't think it will be popular with the dealerships, but its another sign that people are increasingly frustrated with the dealership model.

  35. The state dealer associations are strong, well funded and quick to flex their influence by lobbying legislators when there's a threat to the franchise laws. Years ago Ford wanted to take over a number of CT dealers, eliminate the smaller sales points and then rebuild the remaining points as Ford super stores. Ford's plan didn't last long and was abandoned.

GM felt the branch crack under cars when it paid for heavily refreshed Cruze and Malibu only to see sales keep sliding, Ford weren’t going to do the same thing - hard I know considering my previous suggestions of Focus and Mondeo in ROW but Ford saw eliminating US cars as a way of refining its business. And for those angry with that decision, it was Ford’s to make, understanding that is the first step In recognising that ford lives and dies by its own decisions, not us.

  39. Mach E is also delayed by COVID. It was supposed to be delivered already but it won't happen for a while still. Once the car hit the street, there will probably be new buyers due to increased awareness.

  40. Because the wealthy people buy expensive vehicles. I thought that point is self-evident. GM is in it to make money... it's not Tesla where cost of capital is free. This GMC Hummer basically has the same price range as Escalade ($80k to $110k) so to me it's like asking why GM spent time and money to engineering a designer Escalade for the wealthy. The only difference as far as I can tell is that you have some sort of axe to grind against people buying EV. More affordable EVs are coming. GM is probably working on a dozen of them right now. There is going to be a flood of $50k EV going on sale starting in 2021 from basically every manufacturer. $30k EV is still not profitable, yet. I'm guessing it won't be until after 2025. You can't get there unless we start with wealthy people willing to write checks for $100k EVs.

Can't see that price range happening with battery range that the market wants/expects until battery prices come down even more (perhaps that's GM's expectation for their Ultium costs over the next 5 years). The price range you quote is quite close to the Mustang Mach E - no way the much larger and heavier F150 BEV could have the same battery range at the same price point (without sacrifices in other areas of content).

  44. I always though that was weird. To me, gm always played catch up to ford with design and features, but when the third gens came out, gm used all their money on design, while ford used all theirs on function. The fords were better trucks, but the gms were more attractive to buyers. Even the 4th gens fords look more like range rovers to me. Parked next to my dads 4th gen escalade, there were hardly any similarities.

  45. That's more my point. This thing has a very limited market due to price and being a BEV. I don't see it moving the bottom line at all. Seems like more of a PR stunt. I'd be more impressed with a BEV Silvererra at half the cost (don't think it can get to $30K because of the extra battery capacity required by a heavy truck with a decent payload).

  46. reflective of the type of vehicle...and they'll all sell, but electric is a different beast, and truth be told...that markets is about to get flooded by everyone and their uncle...glad Ford used common sense for once and didn't put all their eggs in one basket...and from the Dealer standpoint the whole way the reservations worked on the Mach E was confusing and completely ridiculous...I hope the Broncos when they flop to actual hard orders are handled better and Ford learnt their lessons...

  48. I'm at 7500 miles now, I drive to and from work in conserve, I'm at about 95MPGe, overall since taking possession I'm at 35 MPG for gas usage. I fill up every 5 weeks but am no where near empty, usually add 12-15 gallons. I have a 40 mile round trip 5X a week. I get a check engine light for regulatory after some charges, but goes away. A few glitches that were one time happenings. I also drive a 500HP Mustang, Audi Q5, BMW X3 rarely now. I planned to keep the miles low on the Aviator to trade up in a few years. It is so much fun and comfortable to drive I ditched that idea. I rarely drive any of our other cars. I only have one long trip where I was hybrid most of the way, I got 27 MPG on the interstate and close to 500 miles. I have a slightly heavy big toe that tips the throttle occasionally. I traded in my F150 Platinum for the GT, best decision for me. It tows my Mustang just fine. Dealer washes vary by dealer, mine has a hand wash crew. It takes about three hours to charge on 220 and eleven on 110. Both connectors come with it.
