  2. This had to be one of the worst conceived and executed product presentations I've ever seen. Not even worth commenting on really. Low budget, exterior product reveal at sunset while the sun goes down and the light gets lost, etc. It was embarrassing to see a major corporation do such a poor job unveiling a major, new product by its CEO that looked like an absolute slob.

  3. Because it’s not that simple. there’s additional hardware and wiring needed in the rear doors. Handles, latches, wiring harness are all different than vehicles without it. I used to do the rear door handle install job occasionally back in the days of the Focus before they eliminated the keyless entry for MY2014. It was never a big deal to me since all the door handles came sequenced already but I can see why they eliminated it. Easier on production process too.

  4. Here's a little known fact from NASCAR history. Back in the late 60's NASCAR wanted to reduce the displacement of the engines so they came up with a power to weight formula which allowed teams to run a lighter car based on the reduced output of its engine. Ford's response to this new rule was to destroke their 427 FE racing engines by using the forged crankshaft from the 361 cu in truck engine. The resulting 396 was a result of using the 427's 4.23" bore and the 361's 3.5" stroke. That engine would scream to over 8000 rpm and won a lot of races in the lighter Fairlane chassis.

  5. Agreed. Farley stumbled through what should have been a piece of cake speech, they showed remarkably little in the “reveal”, and offered little to no details in the way of tech specs. Pretty disappointing.

  6. I just watched a video that says the 6.8 has a forged crankshaft and the same 4.22” bore as the 7.3 with a shorter 3.68” stroke.

  8. More likely that it lets them charge a premium for the 7.3L.

  9. How about if it makes it as a base V-8 at much less cost than the 6.2??? A wild thought that it may make sense on the pure economics? Less cost without giving away a lot of performance?? Why did the 7.3 kill the V-10????

  10. I'm pretty sure those 7 people are pretty worried.

  11. As far as technology goes, this is why Ford Pro was created. GM and RAM have nothing on what Ford is able to offer, they’re not even in the same galaxy and this is just the beginning.

  13. I agree. The timing and lighting reminds me of the Expedition reveal fiasco few years ago where it was hard to watch the presentation screen. So it was good that they at least showed actual videos of the new Super Duty instead of the videos on the screens that the audience saw. I actually thought that Ford Pro leader Ted Cannis gave a great presentation. The way he spoke was passionate and energized. He spoke through it without any problems. But speaking of looking like a slob that you described Farley, what's the deal with Ted's hair? He looks like Kelso from "That 70s Show"! ? Am I the only one that usually cringes whenever Farley speaks? Something about the way he talks and presents is cringy. He is a smart businessman and a great car guy but I would rather read his interview quotes and his Tweets than hear him speak. He usually doesn't stumble like he did last night so I'm guessing he was nervous or didn't practice his speech. Aside from the disappointing 'reveal', though, I do like the changes made to the Super Duty in general and simplifying the lineup, such as making 2WD only on XL. I'm guessing the Twin-I-Beam front suspension is still used on the XL 2WD? I do find it odd that we actually learn more from the pdfs and short videos that Ford posted online, and the videos that some YouTubers made with such details, than last night's reveal by Ford. There were too many speeches, and then finally the trucks drove and parked, and then more speeches. There was hardly anything to make it 'all new' as they had been calling it. The new S650 Mustang being marketed as 'all new'... sure, that makes sense due to lots of upgrades. But the Super Duty is literally just a refresh.

  14. During reveal, Jackie DiMarco stated the 6.8L was designed for “durability and efficiency”. With its heavy-duty truck design, it may also find its way into E-350 and perhaps E-450 as the standard engine, with 7.3L a higher-cost option. In lower GVWR motorhome applications, any fuel efficiency gain would be welcomed.

  15. First off, GO DAWGS.... She just started it for me to see again and its kinda like blue smoke coming out of the tail pipes but only for a few seconds. Engine sounds normal and the vehicle drives normal.

  16. 450/500 would be my guess as well for the 7.3. I'm going to guess the HO 6.7 will be 1150 to 1200lb-ft and another $4-5K.

  17. That was me. But as others have pointed out, the 6.8 actually uses a slightly shorter stroke than even the 6.2 Boss did (3.68" vs 3.74"). One of the things that I wondered about with the 6.2 crank was that with it being a SOHC designed if there was some special machining on the snout of the crank to accommodate the mounting of sprockets to run the camshaft for each cylinder head. That would obviously be unnecessary for a pushrod design like the Godzilla. So, if the crank couldn't be used as is without extra machining, then why not optimize the stroke for the 6.8L application? I suppose it's even possible that they are still using the same raw forging as the 6.2 but altering the machining to suit the 6.8.

  19. I agree Ice, wasn't very smooth at all for a flagship line. From what I saw I'll keep my 22 that I'm happy with. Certainly there are some cool features that I'm sure will come at a cost. I think they missed the mark on the pro power or whatever it's called... should have been 3-3.5kw to be the most useful. at 2kw it seems more of a gimmick.

  20. Well....... If a Kenworth and a corvette had a baby.... That born vehicle!.....underwhelming compared to that vehicle. ( Although the f350 with the 23 6.7 kinda fits that bill)

  21. Andre from TFL did a much better more informative introduction than the Ford dog-and-pony show. No mention of the 650 and 750.

  22. Whole thing is crazy. The 6.2L cost more to manufacture than the 7.3L, but the 7.3L was an extra cost option. This new 6.8L probably costs the same to manufacture as the 7.3L (maybe slightly less if it does indeed have a cast crank), so Ford will bump the power of the 7.3L in order to differentiate it from the 6.8L and continue to be able to charge a premium for it. I believe someone suggested that if they kept the same bore as the 7.3L and used the 6.2L crank the result would be a 6.8L. Looks like that's exactly what Ford did! Probably even used existing 6.2L crank tooling to make the 6.8L crank. So basically Ford replaced the 6.2L with a smaller 7.3L and eliminated an ICE engine family without spending very much money. I hope Ford doesn't charge a ridiculous premium for the 'new' 7.3L, if they do it's a total rip.

  23. Why Ford, did you remove the painted fender flares from the two-tone trucks?! Dammit!

  24. Agreed. Ford doesn't need the 6.8 to be the "be all, end all" of V8s, they just need it to fill the 6.2's slot at a lower unit cost. Heck, by consolidating the SuperDuty on one gasser architecture, it doesn't even have to be that much cheaper than the Boss to be a big win for Ford (although it seems pretty obvious that the 6.8 should cost significantly less to build than the 6.2).

  25. But watching the video it's saying for 23 the 7.3 will get a bump in horse power and tq now that the 6.8 is nipping on its heels.. I'm guessing it will probably go up to 440 and 485 ish....maybe. Just like every new truck There are things I like and things I don't. I don't love it enough to go out and trade the 22 in. Now...is the 7.3 hits the 475 500tq (which is highly unlikely....)then I will be placing an order if used resale values are high enough to make me happy.

  26. HO Diesel is available on every model. 2WD is not available on XLT and up from what I heard.

  27. Even though we have no details. ? Sounds like the 7.3L is being bumped up in power/torque to make room for the 6.8L.

  28. What the fuck is this front end ford? Are your designers shooting up with gm's designers? Because it sure looks that way. My heart is crushed into dust.

  29. So mundane it’s shocking. So the mysterious 6.8 is just a shorter stroke 7.3 with port injection, cast crank, “bowl shaped pistons” (for port injection?) and no apparent cylinder deactivation…and they’re keeping the 7.3 as optional? Seems like a lot of overlap between the two.

  31. The new 6.8... Why? An engine less than 10% smaller than the 7.3 isn't worth the bother!

  32. Mechanicly, it's pretty underwhelming- we get a few refinements and nothing revolutionary, in fact the pushrod gas engines are a devolutionary step. The big news is the software upgrades- The ability to route by vehicle size and lock out dangerous mistakes has applications far beyond light duty trucks.

  35. Hi, I was a victim of a distracted driver on Saturday. I was traveling west on a highway at 70-80 KM/h as I was exiting a construction zone when I was suddenly hit face to face. The driver was going at high speed (estimated at 120km/h) east on the highway when he lost control end ended up in front of me. I'm still shaken as two of my kids we're with me (3 and 5 years old). We are are still pretty shaken but we are doing well and recovering from minor bruises. That Edge did amazing in protecting us. I was really impressed.... That being said, time to purchase a new Ford. Would anyone have any X-Plan PIN available they could share with us ? My dealer is willing to prioritize our order but unfortunately they are selling MSRP. An X-Plan PIN would save me about 3500$. we will be looking at an explorer.... i'm not even sure if I am allowed to ask ? If it's not permitted, please let me know and I will remove. thank you everyone. I really appreciate it. Pierre

  36. Funny you mention the rear doors, that is the number one thing that will send me over to GM or Toyota Pickups who both offer it on the back doors of their higher end pickups. It infuriates me with my backpack, tools and full hands that I have to fumble for the fob which deletes the purpose of the keyless entry. My coworker doesn't have kinda words for her 2022 Edge (She has had a 2013, 2016, 2019, and now 2022) calls it her crap car.

  39. Traditionally, Ford doesn't put up the "Build & Price" for the new Model Year until inventory is low enough for the previous Model Year and usually after the Job #1 Date. It's anyone's guess if they'll change that this year but I wouldn't count on it.

  40. Thank you for the helpful information. I spoke to my dealer about 2 weeks ago, and they said it had not shipped, which matches the email communication I have. When I check the tracker, it still reflects the status as "built". Perhaps it is fully built but missing the badge? I read where 45,000 plus vehicles were sitting waiting on parts, in the same article as the badge shortage. Ford's email landed in my inbox last night. It seems I am getting updated, but I will reach out again and try to chat as well. Frustrating, and losing my patience though I understand others have waited longer. I'm about to give up.

  41. The newest update as of last night, the delivery date came and went. Email now says it should arrive in November. Wonder what happened to October? I'll end up getting this car in 2023 for a year old model. I guess I'll shop around online as a backup.
