Ford Confirms Plan: More SUVs/CUVs, Fewer Cars

Recommended Posts

Not sure if that would have even been possible- lets say it take 36 months or so for refresh to come out

So lets go back to 2013- Gas prices where still at all time highs and the Colorado hasn't even launched yet (came out in mid 2014 or so)

Gas prices crash in 2014...so I'm assuming they started planning for the Ranger in 2015 or 2016?

There really isn't a good reason why the Ranger shouldn't have been launched this summer..not late this fall...with it showing up in dealerships in January or so...thats just ridiculous

meanwhile, Ford has a profit-free micro-Cuv being imported to jump-start THAT segment

:confused:crazy.gif

also meant to ask

are all the RotW-Ranger factories going full-tilt, no shifts leftover?

EcoSport is a band aid IMO till the actually develop something that is more competitive in that market that suites Chinese and Western tastes better. Its coming, but it won't be here for another 36 months or so (Short C or Gen Y CUV as ford is calling it)

Can't import the Ranger because of Chicken tax.

Given the relatively young age of equipment at MAP, I wonder if Ford is looking to reuse a lot of it - perhaps

in a different configuration to accommodate the use of a chassis assembly up to the marriage point..

I wonder if they can use it, a lot of that equipment was bought with the Gov. loans which it looks like they are still paying on.

I'm sure the C2 Focus tooling will end up somewhere. Perhaps it will be send to the new Zoyte Ford JV to be used in the supposed low cost BEV.

Its not like Ford to waste money too..I know tooling etc that came out of Edison went to Twin Cities and other plants, just to sit outside and rust away.

Same thing happens in other industries...people are either too busy or don't give a shit and it happens where I work.

Christ alot of the equipment in my facility is at least 20-30 years old and isn't supported by the maker (whos changed names a couple times)- but a replacement piece of equipment costs 20-40K, which we don't have the budget for.

An you know what, that slight increase in ride height makes all the difference..

I really hope that Ford sells a ton of these because it will prove a point on reinvention of cars.

Or is it a QX50 in disguise...

After the recent comments in this thread... None of the manufacturers have much that's unique right now. All the sedans share the same basic look and profile, along with most of the SUV's or CUV's. Unless you're close enough to see the brand logo, they all look alike. And the all-new 2018 Expedition just looks like a larger version of the Explorer based on the front grille.
