  1. Unfortunately, there have been plenty that arrived for customer delivery with poorly-fabricated tops including delaminating edges and obvious areas where the mould wasn't fully filled with material. I've been one of the "lucky" ones whose top arrived without issues, but it's obvious now there there may be some degree of failure baked into the design. Looking at mine three weeks in, there isn't an apparent fix beyond replacing the whole roof unit. Multiply that out time about 65% of orders on a hotly-received product earning tons of free press and 125,000 pre-orders and the situation gets really bad really quick. They should pull the plug on the MIC entirely until it can be reworked, promise existing MIC owners a new roof unit once it becomes available, and provide a soft top kit to those whose MIC roofs become unusable (this will happen once we get into the freeze/thaw cycles around here).

  2. Three weeks tomorrow since I took delivery of mine, and both the design and engineering of these things is still blowing my mind. We played 2 gigs this weekend and both of them briefly turned into mini car shows with people wanting to crawl around my truck. Of course I let them... it was fun to talk Bronco with a bunch of car guys. They all loved it. HOWEVER... the MIC roof is quickly being exposed as the Achilles heel. I now have a few edges that are starting to show delamination, where the middle "core" layer of honeycomb material is starting to chip away between the outer and inner layers. Since the edges are "raw" and exposed, I can only imagine what seasonal changes will do to these things. My free sound-deadening headliner is also separating from the roof in several places, showing the vinyl "sticker" used between the raw MIC roof interior and the acoustical carpet. A user at B6G also shared how the honeycomb core texture is now visible on the exterior of his roof after waxing it, likely the result of the outer layer being cast unevenly and the "thin" spots letting the core show through. I can't see how Ford doesn't end up having to replace every MIC roof that's left the factory so far. The design of it may work if the manufacturing were 100% flawless, but in reality it just isn't possible.

  4. Can someone tell me why Ford is continuing their relationship with Webasto? I get "contracts and legal obligations" but at this point Webasto has proven to be fraudulent and they can't deliver as promised. Total breach of contract in my book but I am no lawyer. It seems beyond ridiculous at this point to try and salvage Webasto. It's like using buckets to prevent the Titanic from sinking. If I were Ford I would put an immediate course of action in place for a different supplier or bring in house ASAP. Obviously, do it under secrecy and utilize Webasto (scrutinized for quality) until they get an alternative in place. This will go down as the most anticipated launch/vehicle in the past 20 years for Ford (maybe 2005 Mustang). Yet this is turned into the biggest debacle all because they didn't vett out a supplier for production capabilities and NOT HAVING A CONTINGENCY PLAN! I have no skin in the game other than being a share holder. Irritating.

  7. You know what else common sense says? Vast majority of F150 buyers rarely do any towing at all. There are plenty of commercial buyers who don’t tow or haul heavy loads for long distances. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, pool service, landscaping, lawn service, etc etc. City and county governments. Plenty of commercial opportunities.

  9. One has to assume they aren’t leaving the factory this way and that this shows up after some use. But even if it was there isn’t much they can do about it at this point. Screwed once again by a supplier.

  10. Internally it was ! I worked on EEC-I and EEC-II at the same time. Same processor. (For you geeks, this was a true RISC processor ! Besides ADD, SUB, MULL and DIV it only had another 10 or so instructions. 12 bit data and address.)

  11. Our dealership stocks all Super Duty pickups, where optional, with the Roof Clearance Lights. In 35 years, we've never had a customer say they didn't want them and no one has ever asked about different color lights.

  12. I know to the original poster this is not the case but I'm writing this to anybody else contemplating adding them or not. I think adding them on to any 350 would be a good call. When I've sold heavy trucks in the past not having them seemed to turn some buyers away. I don't think any of the guys buying my trucks really needed them I think they just wanted them. But I have never heard anybody say" man, I really like this truck but I really wish it didn't have those lights up top" Guys that buy big trucks like lights, doesn't matter what kind of lights or where they are as long as they are good quality, we just like lights and lots of them.?

  13. This is at the front windshield where the 2 front panels meet. This was the first seam to start sagging, and I instinctively "poked" it back into place several times before bringing it to the attention of my dealer's service advisor. He has reached out to his rep to see what to do about this This is at the back of the driver's side front panel near the B-pillar. The corner of the material was actually doubled-back and folded under it during installation. This also shows the fraying starting in the acoustic carpet and the uneven cuts in places around the latches. This shows some of the exposed edges where you can see the 3 layers of laminate. The center layer has quickly faded to white / light gray and is showing cavities where material may have already been lost. The reveal line here on the passenger side clamshell appears to be flexing a bit, becoming wider in the center than it is at the edges. I've started measuring this to track how it changes. The drivers side is not doing this.

  14. I just read VW is laying claim to be the first to make vehicles that can interact with traffic signals. So since VW and Ford are actively cooperating on many fronts, Ford can't be far behind. So that's how I'm justifying putting this in a Ford forum! I'm a traffic signal nut if you will. I know when they're going to turn red and when they'll turn green. I base my driving habits on it. Most signals today operate in loop sensor mode (not timer), where's there's sensors buried in the pavement on the main drag and the side streets. In most cases, one road will be the main drag with the highest volume, the side streets will have less volume. They sense the presence/absence of traffic. Typically the main drag will get a 40 to 60 second green and then turn red if it detects a noticeable absence of traffic on the main drag and/or a presence on the side street. Sometimes it will turn red after a long green on the main drag to accommodate low mass vehicles like motorcycles on the side street. So if there are no vehicles on the side street, the side street light will stay green for only 5 to 7 seconds. if there is traffic, the side street light will turn red 5 to 7 seconds after the last vehicle has passed through the intersection. This works on secondary roads; you won't usually find this on a busy Main St. with a signal every block for 10 blocks. So knowing this, I've been able to tap my brakes when my light turns red and determine by looking at side street traffic when my light is going to back to green. I think I've had to come to a DEAD stop at a signal on a secondary road maybe 20 times in the last 30 years. I come to slow rolls. Yeah I get looks and beeps from guys behind me. They don't know I'm saving THEM money! Because do you know what it takes in excess brake wear over the years to bring a 1 ton vehicle to a DEAD stop? Do you know what it takes in extra fuel over the years to bring a 1 ton vehicle up to speed from a DEAD stop? My last three cars I had were supposed to get 25 MPG average; I got 31 MPG. And one of those was a 1985 Cadillac I inherited with a 4.1 L V8! I get 150K to 250K on a set of brakes. I know you don't believe me. That's ok, you don't have to. So now, is a guy in a VW on the side street going to screw me up now!?? Go ahead, check me out. Try it, you just might like it! Your wallet will!

  15. Listening to the good doctor has once again not given much reassurance and/or a feelings that will reduce or eliminate the hesitancy and to run out and get the jabs. But the good doctor hasn`t had a good track record of selling his findings. MIT published there findings on individuals that have vaccine hesitancy, and these individuals are “highly informed and scientifically literate”. But, some on a certain side of the isle are referring to those that are hesitant, in demeaning and less than positive descriptive labels. Again, the good doctor is just slightly short on his information to help reassure those hesitant to get the jab, on his celebratory type interview on the Controlled News Network. The interview brings up even more of the good doctors misinformation that CNN helps the good doctor spread to the sheepies. The good doctor is bringing up false information on both the smallpox vaccine and the polio vaccine. Which the good doctor in his celebratory type interview rewrites history because he states there wasn`t much resistance to either vaccine, but in reality both were faced with major hesitancy and opposition. But again I guess everyone should take whatever the highest paid government advisor states as the truth from a pond high. For the record, Never had a flu shot (any strain) ever. Never got a scab form either of the two try's when given the polio vaccine. If a common cold or flu does show up it never lasts for more the 2 or 3 days. In late Dec. 2019 I experienced 11 days of the worst flu I ever had in my life. Never hospitalized. 3 tests for the Chinese Flu all came back negative. The antibody test was inconclusive, twice. My hesitance is based on my medical experiences not political views. Have not received the jab.

  17. For me...stopping power is as important as towing power when pulling a load. It isn't just about the wear on the brake pads. When you can use the engine to stop the truck you have a lot more control.

  18. So we are talking about the 7.3L use of an abrasive product meant to wear at lets assume twice the rate that the diesel would have. Even if someone towing 10K lbs everyday and had to buy 2 times more brake pads it doesn't add up to the premium initial capital or the long term emission system woes I've heard so much about so early on the adoption of "clean diesels." I take my bet on the old cast iron gasser. That's unless you need the extra high capacity towing of 18K to 20K loads. I would reassess based on my needs at that point.

  22. Correct, the electric motor in place of the torque converter adds up to 200 lb ft in the lower rpms tapering off as revs increase.

  23. One would assume… For certain, there are defective tops leaving the factory. Otherwise a customer wouldn’t end up with missing sound deadener on a panel or 2 and delaminating/fit/finish defects the day after taking delivery.

I was originally just looking at the standard rear camera for my truck but I decided to make the switch to The ultimate tow camera system… The more I thought about it, the front camera really started to make sense for me. I’ve gotten by for many years without it, but I’ve bumped a few things in the woods trying to maneuver it for deer camp.. I figured it would also be nice for getting it into parking spots since I daily drive it. I’m still not sure if it’s worth the cost, but since I plan to keep the truck for a while, it’s a nice addition for driving in the woods! I definitely have zero interest in the pro back up assist, but since it’s included I guess I have to have it. Hah jon

  25. The supplier - Webasto - is an absolute mess, with huge system issues over the last 18 months. I can't speak to the particular resins involved, but the basic structure is a textured outer panel and thin inner panel laminated around a core of lightweight honeycomb material. From what I can tell most delivered MIC units have at least some degree of problems.

  26. What is the top made of? Most composites are notoriously hard to layup and will delaminate if the temperature or humidity vary outside a strict range. We had a problem in a Mexico manufacturing facility with composite parts delaminating several years ago. They had to spend several million to upgrade the climate control system to make sure that it didn't happen again. Wonder if the supplier of the MIC top is being lax on quality control in order to just get parts out.

  30. Not yet. I keep eyeing the VIOFO A119. Seems that brand over the years has consistently been on the charts. I just seem to always another project that takes priority. The only thing I've concluded is it's better to have one camera unit up front, and one out back. Seems those dual camera units are sometimes hard to get a cable to the back, if you want rear camera at all.

  32. Explorer 2.3L and All Broncos allegedly use 10r60. Everything else uses the 10r80 Including the Ranger & Mustang. It seems odd that the 2.7L wouldn't use the 10R80 as the 10R60 would be over max torque on some good 2.7L from the factory in the right conditions. If they really stuck the 10R60 on the 2.7L I will dump my Bronco sooner than later. The 2.7L will have a lot of transmission failures as they get up 50K+ in mileage, especially if people tow and push them off-road. You don't put a transmission that maxes out at 600NM with an engine where the base power rating of a low engine maxes out at 550nm. Ford hasn't had a transmission fiasco in a few years, the 10r60 with the 2.7L would be just that; class action lawsuits and would trash the Bronco name in no time at all. Maybe that is the plan though Jeeps until the ZF had trash transmissions, maybe Ford is bringing that back to the segment.

  33. They offer their 3/36k because it would void the Ford warranty (only if reported to Ford by dealer or through inspection). No different then FP or Roush. The 5/60 would be gone.. however if you have an ESP, no telling what you could or couldn't get away with.

  35. On July 6 I received a message from my salesman saying that our 22MY Super Duty was scheduled for production on July 22. Today I received a message from him stating "Your new truck has been produced, now all we have to do is get it here. I'll let you know when it's on its way." So, none of the tracking data that I'm accessing daily on the internet indicates what the salesman is telling me. In fact I can't even see a window sticker, although I have had a VIN since July 6. What ya think, is what the salesman is telling me possible?

  36. WOW ! So much mis-information being thrown around ! First, I worked as a design engineer in Ford's now definition Electronics Division for over 10 years. Before, during and after that I was intimately involved in the software and hardware design of everything from the EEC-I through the PTEC (or whatever the marketing name was). The ECU/PCM is (likely) the most COMPLEX electronic module in the car simply because the government changes OBD requirements every year ! I am sure it has more Flash memory, more RAM memory than anyover module. It has non-eraseable memory for storing certain DTCs (no more disconnect the battery and it will forget). Designers are constantly fighting for more memory. These chips are only redesigned every few years. Redesigns means new features means new software. Most of the ICs in the dozens of modules are very simple 8/16 bit chips with no floating point and a very limited amount of Flash and RAM. Remember the module that drunk that fancy display in your F150 Lariat matched the same video driver as dozens of other consumer devices. The only module that had serviceable memory devices was the EEC-I and the EEC-II. The cost of sockets was too high. You will NEVER see automotive technician in the field opening modules and installing integrated circuits !

Just to clarify the dates in next week's production schedule for those that might not understand, the dates listed are the production weeks that will be assigned for unscheduled orders that are selected for scheduling next Thursday, July 22nd. These assigned production weeks are very reliable with the exception of 2022 Super Duty orders which are sometimes seeing later dates due to the microchip situation and other factors which Ford doesn't provide information on. Scheduling is done on Thursday's and VIN numbers are assigned when the order is scheduled. The exception is vehicles scheduled for export or vehicles produced in foreign plants (EcoSport, Transit Connect) for sale in North America which have VIN numbers assigned closer to production. There have been a number of reports lately from BOF members that have called Ford and been told that certain order status information is no longer available. I can't confirm this but it may be a reaction from Ford due to what I expect is a large increase in the volume of phone calls related to order status inquiries. Dealers have 24/7 access to the Vehicle Visibility system which provides complete information on order history, scheduling, production and shipping status. Customers that have placed retail factory orders are encouraged to contact their Dealer for the latest order status.

  38. There's no easy answer regarding what's been going on with 2022 Super Duty scheduling. None of it is normal because of the microchip situation and other factors interrupting plant schedules, etc. and all I can do is reply based on 35 years of experience managing my dealership's new vehicle inventory and ordering all the stock, retail and fleet inventory. I share what information I can that is relevant without trying to add to all the speculation.

We did see some that turned out to be fabricated and false but it still went on. Does anybody hear a peep of anything that's going on currently?   43. Not sure why I didn't post all my comments here, but here goes... I drove a Wildtrak soft top mannequin today as well. I drove up to see it because it was a Wildtrak - wanted to see the interior combo, drive it, etc. I loved it - it was awesome. I had seen a Big Bend and OBX before during the national tour, but this was my first time seeing nearly my complete build It was a Wildtrak with sasquatch (included), soft top, high package, and modular front bumper, and . Lux package is the only thing missing that I ordered. I'm about 6'0" and I found ingress/egress easy - I actually found the step unnecessary but also useful - meaning, I don't have to use it, but I know I'll use it sometimes, and will be handy for shorter passengers......as well as washing the roof. I thought it drove really well - got to drive it on surface streets and the highway. Tracked nicely, steered well, was composed on the highway. I found it quick - I put it in sport mode and thought it accelerated well - It's obviously not my Mustang, but it's much better than the Flex. Interior materials were good - I retain the same opinion I had before - they're good quality, though mostly "hard touch" except for a few major touch points like the arm rest and upper door panel/arm rest (which as others have mentioned falls perfectly to rest your arm on it). And frankly, it didn't bother me as much this time - could they be fancier? Sure, but they'll last. I also liked the interior color combo - I was never in the dislike camp for Wildtrak's black/tan pairing - but I liked it......the tan isn't as obviously tan as it might look in photos - it's more of a "gray" tan than your 90's tan interior - and not that dissimilar from what I have in my Flex currently (medium sandstone is what they called it in the Flex). I did find the soft top to be loud, especially on the highway. It was ok in the front row, but could hear a lot of noise behind me. My mom, who came along and sat in the back seat, said it was loud back there, and almost echo-y coming from the rear compartment. I've been told the hard top is a more "normal" vehicle experience/quieter. It's much louder than my Mustang's soft top......obviously a bigger area to cover in the Bronco. It was wet/raining out so didn't get a chance to pop the roof back. All in all, I'm glad I went and drove it. I just wish I had mine haha. And another comment after someone at 6g had asked more specifically about the noise: Wiltrak is sasquatch by default, so there was definite tire noise, but I could tell what that was, and I actually though that was pretty low compared to what I remember my dad's Raptor having initially years ago. It was more wind/exterior noise that I found to be loud. One thing to note, though, it was basically a test drive with the sales guy in the car/back seat, so there was no music on like you'd normally have to help drown out other noises. Numbers wise, my watch said around 68-70 db from the drivers seat, but not sure how accurate that actually is, and like I said before, the noise was definitely coming from the rear part of the cabin (obviously, but worth pointing out).

  45. Adding to what Kory04 just said, I really can’t imagine why anyone needs that much horsepower and torque. Our 23 year old Cummins has a five speed manual transmission behind it. Don’t ask how I know that the torque of that older tech diesel engine will tear the center right out of a clutch disc if you’re not kind of careful with it. ?

  46. Agreed. I think the F-150 Diesel was added just to have a diesel and be competitive. There was price resistance which I though was overblown and availability was limited to the higher trim models. Then factor in the low sales for the diesel and the introduction of the new F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid with its performance and there was just little reason to continue offering the diesel option.
